Open Carry Now Prohibited at Local Government & School Board Meetings & Elections Facilities

Three critical gun safety laws were recently signed into law, Rep. Senn’s bill, HB 1630, among them.

“No one should be prevented from accessing their government due to fear of armed intimidation,” said Rep. Senn. “That’s just not OK.”
This new law now prohibits the open carry of weapons at city and county council meetings, off-campus school board meetings and elections sites. It also bans guns at on-campus school board meetings and any ballot counting facility.

“This bill helps ensure all Washingtonians have access to democracy, whether as an elected official, a volunteer or a member of the public. Words and debate, not intimidation and violence, is what makes a democracy successful.”
