#BlackLivesMatter

George Floyd. Your life mattered. Your death matters--it is another clear demonstration of the racism in our country and a clarion call for us all to speak out and stand up against it. The double standards we have been seeing in the news of white people with military-style rifles yelling at police with no repercussions and a black man in handcuffs on the ground has his neck kneed upon so he can't breathe and dies is indicative of the pervasive systemic racism in our country. We can be better than this. I re-commit to being better than this. I re-commit to using my position as an elected leader to champion policies that fight systemic racism, advance equality and spread understanding, appreciation and action in support of our diversity.
